Taste “Buds” Matter

Train Your Buddies to Work for You

We all have our “buds” that we cater to everyday, commonly known as taste-buds.  What is really nice is when your buddies give back to you not just at the moment but long, lasting beneficial results.

It’s a fact that 40% of kids that are born today are expected to develop diabetes at some point in their life because of their eating habits.  With that said, families are becoming more health conscious about the food choices they bring into their home.  If you don’t eat dairy you can still enjoy all the wonderful alternatives—cashew, almond, coconut, and even chocolate-avocado ice cream!

Interesting Facts:

Tips for Your Pooch:

Sugar is bad for all of us, but it’s terrible for your dog; and remember like people, some dogs are lactose intolerant.  Avoid giving chocolate to your dog, as they can get “theobromine poisoning.”  Avoid the sweetener xylitol as it can drop their blood sugar.

So, what flavors do dogs like? Here are a few:

Peanut butter (a fave), fresh strawberries, Banana, Bacon (not the grease), Sardine

Some of those flavors may seem bizarre, but your dog will love them!

Introduction to Making The Easiest Ice Cream With Benefits

It is true, the best ice cream recipes are made in an ice cream maker.  I recommend the Cuisinart  .  It’s simple to use and affordable.  You can’t beat the creaminess that comes from churning! But ice cream is surprisingly easy to make at home. The simplest ice creams only require a handful of ingredients — cream, milk, sugar (of course, a healthy alternative), whatever flavorings you like, and some good recipes.  While you can make ice cream without any special equipment, it’s much easier to have an ice cream maker ready to go when the craving or mood strikes.  And since these gadgets require a relatively small investment, why not grab one before summer really heats up?

Keys to successful ice cream in your Cuisinart Ice cream maker:

  • The ice cream container must be frozen first, or no go.  I keep mine in the freezer, when not using so it is ready to use on the spur of a moment.
  • Second, after ingredients are blended in a blender, turn on ice cream maker so it is spinning before pouring mixture into container.  This is important to prevent the ice cream from getting frozen to the sides, which slows the machine from turning.
  • Liquid sweeteners are not recommended, as they usually make the mixture too icy.
